Angry Locals Heckle and Shoo Away Suren Phukan, Digboi MLA, Over Lack of Developmental Work

Angry Locals Shoo Away Digboi MLA Suren Phukan

In a significant turn of events, Suren Phukan, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Digboi Assembly Constituency in Assam, faced a hostile reception during his visit on Friday. Reports indicate that Phukan's presence at the Betjan tea estate in Digboi, aimed at inaugurating an Anganwadi Centre, was met with furious locals who shouted slogans against him and forcefully drove him away.

As the incident unfolded, the crowd erupted with chants of "go back, go back," creating a tense atmosphere that compelled Phukan to retreat alongside his personal security. Sources reveal that the local residents vehemently protested against the MLA, citing a lack of significant developmental work in the region. Allegations were made that Phukan had not fulfilled his obligations as an elected representative, prompting a large gathering and subsequent protest upon his arrival.

Suren Phukan, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured his position as an MLA in the Digboi constituency through the Assam Legislative Assembly election held in 2016. However, his failure to execute substantial development initiatives appears to have fueled the frustration and disappointment expressed by the community.
