Illegal arms and ammunition were recovered in Assam's Udalguri on Wednesday morning, as the Assam Police discovered a large cache buried in a forest area in Sikaridanga. The haul included six AK-47 rifles, one 9mm pistol, eight magazines, and 74 live ammunition. Director General of Police GP Singh took to his personal Twitter account to announce the recovery, affirming the force's commitment to eliminating all unlawful weapons in Assam.
As of now, it remains unclear how many people were arrested in connection with the discovery of the illegal weapons. However, the police had arrested one person on April 30, who was carrying illegal arms and ammunition. The police, with the help of locals, managed to arrest the individual, identified as Aminul Islam, who was travelling from Arunachal Pradesh to Silapathar. He was apprehended as he got off a bus, reportedly on his way to take another bus towards Silapathar. The police found an SBBL rifle in his possession, which was allegedly intended to be transferred from Lakhimpur's Nawboicha.
