Schemes for Entrepreneurs and Farmers

In a recent report, it has been revealed that entrepreneurs and farmers from Assam, Meghalaya, and other Northeastern states are reaping the benefits of government welfare schemes, leading to a significant increase in their income.

B Sangma, a woman farmer residing in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, expressed her gratitude for the government's welfare schemes that have positively impacted her life. As a participant in the Vibrant North East 2023 summit held in Guwahati, she highlighted her involvement in producing various local products, including a diverse range of chips. Sangma stated, "The government has implemented numerous development schemes for the welfare of farmers, and I am fortunate to receive benefits from them. I have received financial assistance through these schemes, and the agriculture and horticulture departments have provided valuable support. As a result, my income has significantly increased."

S Lyngdoh, a young entrepreneur from Meghalaya, acknowledged the government for providing a platform to showcase and sell their products. She specifically mentioned the challenges faced by pineapple farmers in Ri-Bhoi district and how government initiatives have created a market for their produce. "Farmers now receive benefits from the government schemes," she added.

Another successful woman entrepreneur, Margaret, emphasized the instrumental role of government initiatives in her business growth. She expressed her gratitude to the Meghalaya government for providing opportunities to showcase and sell their products. "I am grateful for the support we have received, enabling us to expand our business," said Margaret.

It is worth noting that women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Assam and other parts of the Northeastern region have also benefitted from both Central and state government initiatives under various welfare schemes. Sangita Das, a member of an SHG in Assam's Kamrup Metro district, highlighted that all SHG members are receiving benefits from these government schemes, resulting in increased income for the group.

Suditri, an employee of the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), acknowledged the positive impact of government initiatives on farmers and young entrepreneurs across the region. NERAMAC has played a crucial role in providing a platform and market for them to sell their products.

The combined efforts of the government, entrepreneurs, farmers, and SHGs have fostered economic growth, empowerment, and prosperity in the Northeastern region of India, benefiting a wide range of individuals and communities.
