Territorial Army (TA) women officers can now be posted with its engineer regiments along the Line of Control (LoC), said the Indian Ministry of Defence in a statement on Sunday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also approved the appointment of women officers as staff officers at TA group headquarters and the Directorate General of TA in New Delhi, in accordance with organizational requirements. The TA, which operates on the concept of a citizen-soldier army, began commissioning women officers in ecological task force units, oil sector units, and railway engineer regiments in 2019. Based on their experience, the scope of further employment for women officers in TA has been extended, the ministry said, adding that the progressive policy measure was aimed at enhancing the scope of employment of women officers while meeting their professional aspirations. The department of military affairs has also approved amendments to existing cadre management provisions for women officers of the TA.
