Tinsukia: In a puzzling incident, a stationary passenger bus caught fire at the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus depot in Tinsukia district on Thursday morning. The bus, with the registration number 'AS12 BC 9447,' was completely engulfed in flames, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Fortunately, the bus had not yet boarded any passengers destined for Tezpur when the fire broke out, resulting in no injuries reported. The incident has raised questions as authorities investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak.
It is worth mentioning that this incident occurred against the backdrop of ongoing protests by a group of former employees who were recently terminated from their positions within the transport agency. The ASTC recently announced the dismissal of 771 employees who were allegedly recruited illegally without following proper procedures during the tenure of Anand Prakash Tiwari and Khagendra Nath Chetia as Managing Directors.
The decision to terminate the employees has sparked a heated situation, leading to a gathering of affected workers at the ASTC office in Guwahati's Paltanbazar area. The disgruntled employees demanded answers from the General Secretary of the State Transport Employees Union regarding their unexpected dismissals. The situation intensified as the aggrieved employees called for an immediate reversal of the termination decision.
To maintain order, the Paltanbazar police were called to the scene to control the escalating situation and ensure public safety.
As investigations into both the bus fire and the employee protests continue, authorities strive to bring clarity and resolve the grievances of all parties involved.
