Silchar: NIA arrests Md Noor Hussain in connection with Manipur SUV blast
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested Md Noor Hussain S/o Late Md. Babu resident of Kwakta, Bishnupur, Manipur from Silchar, Assam, in connection with a blast in an SUV in Kwakta town of Manipur's Bishnupur district on June 21, 2023.
The blast, which was caused by an IED-laden Mahindra Scorpio parked on a bridge located the area of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim road in Bishnupur District, Manipur, injured three people and damaged the bridge and nearby houses. The NIA probe revealed Hussain's involvement in the blast. The case was initially registered by the Manipur Police - FIR no. 635(6)2023 dated 21.06.2023 at PHOUGAKCHAO(ITHAI) Police Station, Sub Division Moirang, Bishnupur District, Manipur, but was later taken over by the NIA.
NIA Investigations in RC 01/2023/NIA/IMP alleged Md Noor Hussain to have been involved in the planning and execution of the attack. He is the first person to be arrested in connection with the case.
According to sources, the NIA team had been actively searching for him, and they eventually tracked him down to his uncle Nurul Haque's residence in Banskandi a few days ago. However, during a search at Nurul Haque's house on Saturday night, the accused managed to escape and sought shelter in the residence of Rashida Begum Chowdhury in the Badripar area of the district. Subsequently, he was apprehended from that location.
Hussain was arrested in a joint operation by the NIA and the Assam Police. He was produced in a court in Silchar on Tuesday and remanded to NIA custody for 10 days.
The NIA is continuing its investigation into the case. Further details are awaited.
