The Assam Chief Minister's vigilance cell has arrested suspended IAS officer Sewali Devi Sharma and her son-in-law Ajit Pal Singh from Rajasthan for their alleged involvement in a scam worth Rs 105 crore at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The allegations are related to financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds that occurred during Sharma's tenure as the Executive Chairman cum Director of SCERT between 2017 and 2020. She has been accused of embezzlement without showing any work orders, and of opening five bank accounts without the Assam government's consent. The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell had earlier arrested six individuals on May 3 in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing.
