Violent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur since Wednesday have resulted in at least 54 deaths. Security personnel were evacuating Meiteis when four people were gunned down in Churachandpur, followed by another death in Imphal. As per sources, 16 bodies were kept in the mortuary of the Churachandpur district hospital and 15 bodies in the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East district. Over 150 people were injured in the clashes.

In response, nearly 10,000 army, paramilitary, and central police troops were deployed in the state after protests by tribals, particularly Kukis and Nagas, on Wednesday against the dominant Meitei clan's scheduled tribe status. Roadblocks and cordons have been placed in areas where militant groups clashed with security forces. The security presence has been visibly increased on all major highways and locations. A crowd of students and other individuals gathered at Imphal airport to leave the unstable state.

Two encounters in Churachandpur district on Friday night between security forces and hill-based militants resulted in five militants killed and two injured India Reserve Battalion jawans. The army rescued and transferred approximately 13,000 individuals to safe shelters, including army camps, bringing Churachandpur, Moreh, Kakching, and Kangpokpi districts under its control.

On Saturday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) postponed the NEET-UG examination in Manipur, scheduled for Sunday, due to the law-and-order situation. Candidates with examination centers in Manipur will take the test at a later date.
