AJP President Lurinjyoti Gogoi Highlights Negligence in Kharguli Water Supply Pipeline Incident

Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Kharguli Water Supply Incident

In the aftermath of the unfortunate incident in Kharguli, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, expressed his views, attributing the incident to negligence on someone's part.

Speaking to reporters about the incident in Kharguli, where a Gammon JICA water supply pipeline burst with tremendous force, causing significant damages and the loss of a life, Gogoi emphasized the unfortunate nature of the event. He asserted that the incident was not a natural disaster but rather the result of someone's negligence, particularly pointing to those responsible for quality checks and maintenance of the pipes.

Gogoi further drew attention to a project initiated in 2011 that should have been completed by 2015. He raised concerns about corruption within the water supply scheme and called for a comprehensive investigation into both the involved company and the department officials. Expressing his worries, Gogoi questioned the potential consequences if a similar accident were to occur at the lower Subansiri dam and urged the Chief Minister to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 3 p.m. when a Gammon JICA water supply main line pipe burst in the Kharguli area of Guwahati. The burst unleashed a powerful surge of water, sweeping away multiple vehicles and causing damage to approximately 40 houses. Over 600 individuals were reportedly affected, with around 30 sustaining injuries.

Tragically, Sumitra Rabha, a resident of one of the damaged houses, lost her life in the incident. The injured individuals were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for necessary medical attention. Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the burst, ensuring accountability for the incident.
