Assam Chief Minister Takes Strong Action Against Fake Disability Certificates for Government Jobs

Fake Disability Certificates for Government Jobs

In a major development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the state government is considering stern measures against individuals who produce counterfeit disability certificates to secure recruitment under the divyang quota in government-advertised positions.

Chief Minister Sarma expressed concern over the issue of individuals obtaining fake caste certificates to gain unfair advantage in job opportunities, highlighting that the government has already taken steps to address this problem. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate a similar situation where candidates present fraudulent disability certificates to secure appointments.

During a press conference held ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit and the distribution of appointment letters to approximately 45,000 newly appointed candidates, CM Sarma revealed that the main challenge arises from the production of counterfeit certificates for hearing impairment.

"We have been informed that some divyang candidates did not pass their medical assessments, and as a result, their results are currently withheld," stated Chief Minister Sarma.

In response to a journalist's query about candidates securing jobs through fake disability certificates, CM Sarma confirmed that the government would write to the recruitment commission to thoroughly scrutinize the documents of such individuals and cancel their appointments if found guilty.

"The primary issue lies with those presenting counterfeit certificates for hearing impairment. We have observed that numerous candidates are producing false certificates falsely claiming hearing impairment to gain recruitment under the divyangjan quota," Chief Minister Sarma explained.

He further added, "This poses obstacles for genuinely impaired individuals who are deserving candidates under the quota." Meanwhile, the Assam government will take strict action against those involved in producing counterfeit certificates, as affirmed by the Chief Minister.

"We will initiate criminal proceedings against those who obtained fake certificates. Additionally, we will hold numerous health department officials accountable for issuing disability certificates to individuals who, upon medical examination, were found to have no disability," CM Sarma asserted.

To investigate this matter, an inquiry has been established, and the CID and CM Vigilance Cell have been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation. The Chief Minister anticipated a significant number of arrests, estimated to be around 1,000, stating that individuals who produce counterfeit certificates and those involved in issuing them would all be scrutinized.

Furthermore, CM Sarma acknowledged the protests by several organizations against the issuance of fake SC/ST certificates to candidates applying for government jobs. He emphasized his commitment to prevent such malpractices from affecting divyang individuals.
