The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has launched the 'Digitizing Axom' website, a community project that aims to digitize rare Assamese journals and books published between 1813 and 1970. The initiative is intended to preserve the treasure trove of Assamese literature and make it available for public use. CM Sarma praised the efforts of Mrinal Talukdar, the Secretary of Nanda Talukdar Foundation, who has been leading the project for the past two decades. The Chief Minister also appealed to the public to come forward with rare literary works that have not been digitized under the first phase of the project. The initiative has been supported by the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay Educational and Socio-Economic Trust. Digitizing Axom is aimed at digitizing every possible rare Assamese language book and journal and making them accessible to the public through the website www.assamarchive.org. The first phase of the project includes journals published between 1840 and 1970, encompassing 3071 editions of 161 journals with a total of 2,45,680 pages. The second phase of the project, which is currently underway, will cover books published between 1813 and 1962. The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's efforts to use digitization for efficient delivery of public services such as Mission Sadbhavna and announced that from June 1, all files in offices of the Deputy Commissioner and the Directorates will be processed only in digital format.
