Assam Police Declares Indian Youth Congress National President as Absconding in Harassment Case

Reports state that the Assam Police has announced that Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata, the National President of Indian Youth Congress (IYC), is currently "absconding." Venkata has been requested to appear at the Dispur Police Station on May 2 for questioning in connection with a harassment case filed by Angkita Dutta, the former woman president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress. In a notice dated April 23, additional deputy commissioner of police (East Guwahati) Moitrayee Deka has asked Venkata to appear for questioning on May 2 at 11:00 am. The notice also prohibits Venkata from making any threats or inducements to persons acquainted with the case.

The notice states, "It is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you, in relation to the present investigation. Hence, you are directed to appear before me at 11:00AM on 02/05/2023 (Tuesday) at Dispur police station, Guwahati police commissionerate, Kamrup (metro)."

In related news, Venkata recently moved the Karnataka Sessions Court after the Gauhati High Court declined to grant any interim relief to him in his plea to quash an FIR filed by Angkita Dutta accusing him of outraging her modesty and harassing her. Srinivas had sought bail in connection with the case, but the court denied his application after hearing arguments from the special public prosecutor Makhan Phukan.
