Assam to Construct 1000 Bridges Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's Vision

Guwahati: Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, unveiled an ambitious plan on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, to build a network of 1,000 bridges across the state. The announcement came during the inauguration of the impressive 2.6-km-long flyover stretching from Kamakhya Gate to Maligaon in Guwahati, considered the longest in Assam.

Having already accomplished the successful completion of 842 bridges, both large and small, Sarma expressed his satisfaction with the state's infrastructure progress. The Chief Minister confidently declared that the construction of these additional 1,000 bridges would soon kick off, all set to reach completion by 2026.

Underscoring the strategic importance of Guwahati as the entryway to the Northeast, Sarma shared his vision to elevate the city into a thriving gateway for Southeast Asia.

During the public inauguration of the 'Neelachal Flyover,' Sarma acknowledged the formidable challenges that the Public Works Department (PWD) faced during its timely construction. This remarkable flyover was constructed on one of Guwahati's busiest thoroughfares.

With an investment of Rs 420 crore, the 'Neelachal Flyover' project was skillfully executed by the state's PWD department. The project demanded a staggering 18,000 metric tonnes of cement, 20,000 cubic metres of sand, 7,500 metric tonnes of steel, and an array of other essential materials.

In addition to these impressive developments, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted a series of ongoing road projects in Guwahati and various towns across Assam. These initiatives are currently progressing through different stages of planning and execution.

A total of 22 significant undertakings, including flyovers and bridges spanning the Brahmaputra River, are in progress. Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that an impressive 21 of these projects are swiftly nearing completion, showcasing the state's dedication to advancing its infrastructure landscape.
