Assamese Film Producer Files FIR for Copyright Infringement and Violation of Cinematography Act

Assamese Film Producer Files FIR for Copyright

In a significant development, Sailen Kumar Sharma, the producer of the newly-released Assamese film "Sri Raghupati," has filed a First Information Report (FIR) alleging copyright infringement and violation of the cinematography act surrounding the film. The FIR was lodged at the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) office on June 8 by Sharma, seeking justice and legal action against the accused party.

According to reliable sources, the complaint centers around an individual named 'Nabajit Vlogx,' who allegedly recorded and shared videos of the film inside a cinema hall on his YouTube channel and Facebook page. Sharma has provided documentary evidence to support his claim and urges authorities to promptly address this matter.

Sailen Kumar Sharma expressed his concerns, stating, "Sometimes viewers upload certain portions of the film, thinking it will benefit the movie. We have already requested them to delete those clips. However, this individual named Nabajit Saharia from Kolaigaon has turned off his phone, and the police are currently making efforts to legally trace him. Additionally, we have already lodged an FIR at the DGP office."

Furthermore, Sharma revealed that the accused had already uploaded one hour and thirty-six minutes of the movie, which constitutes a criminal offense. The content was captioned, "I have uploaded the movie, really sorry about that. Please share as much as you can and please do not report the content." The producer emphasized the negative impact such actions can have on the film's business and requested swift action against the accused.

Expressing his suspicions, Sharma added, "I believe that there is someone else behind this entire incident, as I find it hard to believe that a young person would dare to commit such an offense. As a YouTuber, I am confident that he is aware of the platform's rules."

The filing of the FIR marks a significant step in the legal proceedings initiated by Sailen Kumar Sharma to protect the rights of the film "Sri Raghupati" and hold accountable those involved in the alleged copyright infringement and violation of the cinematography act.
