CBI raids former CMD of WAPCOS and recovers Rs 38.38 crore in disproportionate assets case

The former CMD of WAPCOS, Rajinder Kumar Gupta, and his son, Gaurav Singal, have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged possession of disproportionate assets. The CBI conducted raids at 19 locations in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonepat, and Ghaziabad and recovered Rs 38.38 crore, along with significant amounts of jewellery, valuable items, and incriminating documents at the accused's premises.

According to the CBI press release, "During searches conducted so far, cash of Rs 38.38 crore (approx), FDRs, keys of bank Lockers, and details of accounts in various banks have been recovered from the premises of the accused." Gupta and his family members were booked recently for amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The CBI registered an FIR against Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, his son Gaurav Singal, and his daughter-in-law Komal Singal on Tuesday.

The CBI has alleged that Gupta, who was the CMD of WAPCOS from 2011 to 2019, possessed disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income. The investigative agency also revealed that WAPCOS, a central public sector enterprise wholly owned by the government, falls under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
