The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Karnataka has unanimously passed a resolution empowering Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to choose the state's next Chief Minister. The resolution was passed on Saturday and stated that "The Congress Legislature Party unanimously resolves that AICC President is hereby authorised to appoint the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party."
In addition to authorizing Kharge to select the new Chief Minister, the CLP passed another resolution thanking the people of Karnataka for their support in the recent elections.
Ahead of the CLP meeting, a large number of supporters gathered outside the residence of Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru and chanted slogans in favor of him being appointed as the Chief Minister.
On the other hand, Mallikarjun Kharge had appointed three observers, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Jitendra Singh, and Deepak Babaria, ahead of the election of the CLP leader in Karnataka.
