A doctor couple in Guwahati, Dr. Waliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Dutta, have been detained by police in connection with an alleged child abuse case. According to sources, the couple regularly tied their little daughter, who they had supposedly adopted, on their terrace in the blazing summer heat. The incident was brought to light by child rights activist Miguel Das Queah, who had received complaints about the couple’s cruelty for a long time. The child reportedly had bruise marks all over her body.
After urging witnesses to file a complaint, Miguel updated the Child Welfare Committee and urged the Assam Police to investigate the bruises, speak with teachers and neighbors, and check the adoption documents. Miguel alleged that Dr. Waliul Islam has another illegally adopted girl child from a previous marriage, whom he has abandoned.
Local residents informed the Paltan Bazaar Police, who rescued the child and detained Dr. Waliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Dutta. The couple is currently being interrogated, along with a caretaker identified as Lakshmi Nath. The child has been removed from the abusive environment, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
