E-Rickshaw Driver Assaulted in Tinsukia

In a distressing incident, an e-rickshaw driver fell victim to a physical assault perpetrated by a group of four to five individuals in the heart of Tinsukia town on Wednesday. The incident unfolded when Rimanta Duwara, a professional e-rickshaw driver hailing from Barekuri village, engaged in a heated argument with non-Assamese speakers near Tamulbari market. The altercation arose when they purportedly denied him space to park his e-rickshaw.


According to local sources, the group proceeded to forcefully drag Rimanta through the mud and subjected him to severe thrashing. Prompt action by the Tinsukia police led to his rescue from the scene of the crime.


Following the harrowing incident, the victim lodged a complaint at the Tinsukia police station, detailing the events. Expressing his ordeal to the media, he stated, "I was present at Tamulbari market in Tinsukia when some non-Assamese speakers initiated an assault against me for requesting space to park my e-rickshaw. They occupied the entire market area. I suffered brutal beatings from the group, with punches directed at my head, face, and hands. They also tore my clothes."


The assault on the e-rickshaw driver has raised concerns and drawn attention to the need for swift justice and enhanced safety measures within the community.
