Indian Army Rescues Tourists in Sikkim

In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Indian Army successfully conducted a rescue operation to save approximately 500 stranded tourists, including 54 children, who were trapped due to heavy rainfall and landslides in various parts of north Sikkim.

The incessant rain had caused landslides and blockages, leaving the tourists stranded at Chungthang while en route to the scenic Lachung and Lachen valleys. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Chungthang reached out for assistance.

The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army swiftly responded to the request and took immediate action to ensure the safety of the stranded tourists. The army personnel efficiently evacuated the tourists and transported them to three different army camps. At the camps, the tourists were provided with hot meals and warm clothing to ensure their comfort and well-being during this challenging time.

The group of rescued tourists consisted of 216 men, 113 women, and 54 children, all of whom were accommodated in the army camps for the night. To ensure their health and safety, dedicated medical teams conducted thorough check-ups. Fortunately, the initial medical assessments indicated that all the tourists were in stable condition.

Among the rescued individuals, one woman displayed symptoms of acute mountain sickness, including severe headaches and dizziness. The army's medical team promptly attended to her and recognized the urgency of her condition. She was immediately transferred to an intensive care unit (ICU) in a medical hospital. The latest update confirms that her condition has now stabilized, thanks to the timely intervention.

The Indian Army's swift and effective rescue operation not only ensured the safety of the stranded tourists but also provided them with the necessary support and care. The commitment and dedication of the army personnel played a crucial role in managing the situation and safeguarding the lives of those affected by the heavy rains and landslides in Sikkim.
