New Delhi: The Government of India has launched the invoice incentive scheme "Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar" today, September 1, 2023. The scheme aims to encourage consumers to ask for invoices for all purchases, and to bring about a cultural and behavioral change in the general public.
The scheme is being initially launched as a pilot in the states of Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Puducherry, Dadra Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu. All residents of India will be eligible to participate in the scheme, regardless of their state or union territory.
To be eligible for the scheme, invoices must be issued by GST-registered suppliers to consumers. The minimum value for invoices to be considered for a lucky draw is Rs. 200. Invoices can be uploaded on the mobile application "Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar" or on the web portal merabill.gst.gov.in
Every month, 800 people will be selected for a lucky draw, with each winner receiving Rs. 10,000. There will also be a quarterly bumper draw, with two winners receiving Rs. 1 crore each.
The pilot scheme will run for a period of 12 months. If successful, it could be rolled out nationwide.
The scheme is a welcome initiative by the government to promote transparency and accountability in the GST system. It will also help consumers to protect their rights and get the best possible deals.
