After days of speculation and a political deadlock, the suspense over the next Chief Minister of Karnataka has finally been resolved. Recent reports confirm that Siddaramaiah has been selected as the state's next chief minister, with DK Shivakumar appointed as his deputy.
In a significant breakthrough, a video conference meeting between Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday night successfully brokered a solution between the two leaders.
The official announcement of Siddaramaiah's appointment will be made by Kharge at the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru this evening, as per reports.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on May 20. Central Observers from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) have been instructed to convene a meeting in Bengaluru later today.
The intense power struggle for leadership has been evident in recent days, as various factions vied for control over the southern state following the Congress party's victory in the May 10 elections, securing 135 seats out of the 224-member Karnataka Assembly.
Earlier on Wednesday, Randeep Surjewala, Congress' Karnataka-in-charge, announced that the decision regarding the next Karnataka chief minister would be disclosed today or tomorrow, with the formation of a new cabinet expected within 72 hours.
